River Ouzel

The River Ouzel rises in the Chiltern Hills and is also known as the River Lovatt

The MKAA stretches of the River Ouzel runs from Water Eaton Park (opposite the lakes estate) through to the back of Willen. It is split into three sections Sparks Meadow, Water Eaton through to Watling Street. Caldecotte lake through to Simpson and Simpson through to M1 at the back of Willen. This little river eventually joins the River Ouse in Newport Pagnell.

The Ouzel offers a range of different species with roach to over 2lb, Chub to over 6lb, it also offers some big perch along with a large range of silvers, the odd carp and pike. Barbel are present albeit not big, thanks to the EA who have stocked the Ouzel in the past, although these fish have been seen by some who walk the river there are very few reports of any barbel being caught.

The river becomes very weedy in the summer months but is very different venue in the winter offering a series of pools and glides with many features for the fish to hide in as it meanders through the city. Don’t be put off by the size of the river, travel light and enjoy as every swim has the potential to produce even on the coldest day.
