Willen Lake, North and South

As from the 16th June 2023 - Members Only Water

Willen Lake, two large lakes covering an area of 150 acres, the lakes have a good track of producing some very large fish and the south lake currently holds the MKAA carp record which stands at 58lb (The Golden Common) and the south lake has also produced Mirror carp to 48lb with numerous carp between 20lb – 40lb bracket with some cracking fully scaled mirrors.

Both lakes are also known for their mega double figure bream along with some good size tench. Willen North also contains a number of large carp and has producing fish to 40lb along with some large bream and a few tench. Both lakes have produced pike up to 30lb which feed on the silvers and perch that dwell in the lakes, Willen lake is very popular with the roving lure angler. Deadbaits work well in the winter months.

The lakes can be fished all year round and night fishing is permitted. Due to the large size of the bream please remember that MKAA has a rule that stipulates a maximum of 40lb of fish in the keepnet at anyone time.

The river Ousel runs along side the lakes and both the north and south are balancing lakes designed to control excess water and at times of flood can become one lake.

The lakes are owned by The Parks Trust and due to their size the South lake supports a large amount of water sport activity along with public activity around the lakes. Anglers fishing Willen Lake must be tolerant to other park users and the best advice I can give is to fish tidily and put tackle away when fishing.

Due to amount of water sport activity there is restrictions on when and where anglers can fish in some areas of the lake. Please refer to water map available on line or in the MKAA handbook.
